Blackjack Surrender Strategy Chart

Most players do not consider the Blackjack surrender strategy because of the adrenaline rush while playing the game. But the surrender action can be decisive if played according to the Blackjack surrender strategy.

There are two types of surrender in a Blackjack game: early surrender and late surrender.

The early surrender happens at the beginning of the game after the first two cards have been dealt. If a player finds the first two cards’ total value is not promising, they can choose to surrender. There is not much blackjack strategy in early surrender.

If the player finds no chances of winning, considering how low the first hand is, the player can surrender and leave the game. That’s about it.

Consider early surrendering in the following situations:

  • If the deal maker’s upcard is an ace, and your total card value is between 5 and 7(including 3s)
  • If the dealer shows an ace and your card value is between 12 and 17( including 6s, 7s and 8s)
  • If the dealer shows a card of value ten and your total value stands between 14 and 16( including 7s and 8s)
  • If the dealer offers a card of value nine and you got cards of values 10 and 6 or 9 and 7

Late Blackjack Surrender

The late Blackjack surrender happens after the dealer reveals the hole card. The basic strategy of late surrender is different and more intricate than early surrender.

Math of Surrender

You surrender when you cannot win one hand out of the four hands you play. In such a scenario, your expected loss is more than 50%. The chances of winning are less than 25%, and losing is more than 75%. Surrendering in such a situation is the best option; otherwise, you would lose a lot of money in the long run.
