If you’re living in Vancouver, you sure are lucky. The city boasts of everything from mountains to skiing to beaches and more, making it a paradise. However, it isn’t as cheap as you would want it to be. Beauty, after all, comes at a price.

Living in Vancouver: Should You Go For It?

Cost is an effective factor in deciding our residence. There is no standard rate, and the living cost varies across the globe for different countries.

According to a latest survey, Vancouver and Toronto are two of the most expensive places to live in Canada. But as compared to other cities worldwide, they are still much cheaper. Vancouver ranks 107 worldwide and no. 1 in Canada in terms of living expenses.

This survey wanted to calculate costs of living all over the world across various cities. Titled as the Mercer 2017 Cost of Living Survey, this survey ranks 209 cities. This time Vancouver has clinched the title of being Canada’s costliest city. Housing and lodging costs, estimates of transportation, food, clothing, household items and entertainment costs in totality have served as the parameters for ranking these 209 cities. Toronto follows Vancouver which also ranked 1st due to the rising costs of rents in the city.

Montreal stands at the 129th spot. Calgary ranks 143 and Ottawa is at 152. These positions have been linked to the strengthening of the Canadian dollar as per the survey. But these mentioned cities have still been found to be affordable in comparison with other cities in the list.

According to Gordon Frost of Mercer Canada’s Career business, the costs of living is high as per the opinion of the locals but the expatriates are thronging to these cities in large numbers, and those placed by organisations outside the country are coming here in increased amounts. Despite the strong dollar, Canadian cities are much more affordable to live in even though real estate and rents have reported a gradual rise.

List of Top 10 most expensive cities in the world as per the survey

1. Luanda, Angola
2. Hong Kong
3. Tokyo, Japan
4. Zurich, Switzerland
5. Singapore
6. Seoul, South Korea
7. Geneva, Switzerland
8. Shanghai, China
9. New York, United States
10. Bern, Switzerland
